Your Role
As a Mechanical Design Team Leader, you will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of transformers and their mechanical components. Positioned as a technical expert, you will work on complex projects, provide structured leadership, and mentor less experienced engineers. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-performing, efficient solutions that meet the highest industry standards.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of transformers and their mechanical components, in accordance with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, CSA) and customer requirements;
- Conduct advanced engineering analyses to optimize product performance, reliability, cost, and efficiency;
- Lead and supervise design-related failure analyses, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions;
- Provide technical leadership during design reviews and support decision-making on complex issues;
- Mentor and guide three engineers (junior, intermediate, and senior) in their technical and professional development;
- Collaborate closely with production, quality, supply chain, sales, and customer service to ensure seamless integration of designs into production;
- Prepare, maintain, and update rigorous engineering documentation (specifications, test plans, technical reports);
- Interact with ERP systems to ensure the accuracy and traceability of engineering data.
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field;
- More than 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in the design of transformers or comparable industrial equipment;
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
- Demonstrated experience in managing design projects, from the conceptual phase to production;
- Advanced proficiency in design and analysis tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, FEA, thermal analysis);
- Knowledge of applicable standards and regulatory requirements (IEEE, IEC, CSA, DOE);
- Proficiency with ERP environments;
- Bilingualism (French/English), both written and spoken;
- Natural leadership, ability to influence, structure, and develop talent;
- Excellent analytical skills and strong autonomy in resolving complex technical problems;
- Strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously;
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary context.
