Senior Electrical Engineer — Solar PV + Storage

The company

A fast-growing, VC-backed Quebec cleantech company designs and operates autonomous water production systems powered by renewable energy. Solutions are deployed internationally to municipal, industrial, and tourism customers.

Role

The company is hiring a senior electrical engineer to lead the design, optimization, and sourcing of solar PV systems paired with battery energy storage (BESS). The hire essentially produces the technical blueprint: electrical architecture, component selection, direct negotiation with international suppliers. Execution teams then deploy the projects on-site, with the hire’s support during critical commissioning.

The mandate weighs technical performance, cost discipline, and speed of execution equally. The hire is expected to challenge standard practices and bring a design perspective that accelerates future deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design and architecture — produce the electrical blueprint for PV + BESS systems for off-grid applications, optimized for $/kWh delivered and time to commissioning.
• Strategic sourcing — actively shop and negotiate directly with manufacturers (inverters, batteries, panels, protections, racking). Maintain a validated-supplier shortlist.
• PV ↔ BESS ↔ load integration — specify BESS (chemistry, SOC window, C-rate, BMS) consistent with the industrial load profile.
• Permitting — solid understanding of applicable regulatory requirements. Optimize and accelerate approval processes through pre-certified component selection, appropriate topology choices, and continuous process improvement.
• Commissioning support — back up execution teams during critical startups; validate design choices in the field and feed lessons into subsequent designs.

Candidate profile

• 8–15 years delivering solar + storage projects.
• Demonstrated background in C&I integration, small/mid-scale development, or off-grid / microgrid projects.
• Personal commissioning of multiple projects; field-comfortable.
• Proven ability to optimize BOMs and challenge oversized specifications.
• Comfortable selecting and negotiating directly with international suppliers.
• Working knowledge of hybrid inverters, battery chemistries (LFP, NMC), and BMS integration.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; OIQ membership or equivalent is an asset.
• Fluent French and English required; functional Spanish is a strong asset.
• Experience in corrosive or coastal environments is a strong asset.
