Manufacturing Environment
In a context of growth, a large-scale manufacturing company located on the South Shore of Montreal is creating a key position for a Maintenance Director.
You will play a central role within the maintenance function of a plant employing close to 300 people, operating in a unionized and highly technical environment, where your ability to structure, influence, and elevate standards will make a significant impact.
Your Role
Reporting to the Plant Director, you will be responsible for the entire maintenance function (excluding certain specialized activities), with a clear mandate: to improve equipment reliability, strengthen operational discipline, and mobilize teams around high standards.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the maintenance strategy in alignment with the plant’s operational objectives
- Developing and deploying a structured equipment reliability program
- Ensuring achievement of asset availability and performance targets
- Managing and controlling substantial maintenance budgets
- Implementing and evolving best practices in maintenance and operational excellence
- Leading, engaging, and developing a multidisciplinary team (managers, planners, buyers, etc.)
- Structuring processes, prioritizing interventions, and optimizing work planning
- Collaborating closely with production to ensure seamless and efficient execution
- Maintaining high standards in occupational health and safety
Structure & Environment
- Total maintenance team: 50+ unionized employees
- Direct reports: approximately 10 managers and professionals
- Functions under your responsibility: mechanical and electrical maintenance, planning, procurement, storeroom, facilities
Environment:
- Continuous operation plant (24/7)
- Heavy and complex equipment
- High stakes related to health & safety and equipment reliability
Profile Sought
We are looking for a seasoned manager capable of combining strategic vision with hands-on execution.
Key Competencies
- Strong leadership: ability to align and elevate teams
- Results-driven mindset with solid execution discipline
- Excellent analytical skills (KPIs, performance, costs) with implementation of concrete action plans
- Comfort working in demanding, technical, and unionized environments
- Ability to operate in evolving structures requiring organization and clarity
Experience & Education
- College diploma (DEC) or Bachelor’s degree (BAC) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance leadership or equivalent role
- Significant experience in heavy industrial maintenance
- Experience managing substantial budgets and multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency with IT tools and ERP systems (an asset)
- Functional bilingualism (French / English)
