Welding Engineer, Manufacturer

As an expert within Velan, you will be able to contribute to its success in different ways, for example:

• Provide technical support to production in welding, brazing, and heat treating operations, and assist in the efficient troubleshooting and resolution of production interruptions;
• Collaborate with the Welding and Metallurgy Manager in planning, executing, tracking, and reporting project progress;
• Assist welders in various plants, as needed, as the primary point of contact;
• Review and approve supplier Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS);
• Provide quality control support by investigating potential causes of welding problems;
• Supervise and ensure the training and qualification of welders in accordance with ASME, military, PED, and other codes and standards.

If the following describes you:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, welding, or metallurgical engineering, or a related field;
• 3 to 5 years of practical experience in the manufacturing of welding products;
• Be a Canadian citizen and meet all Controlled Goods Program (CGP) requirements;
• Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or in the process of becoming a member (a professional engineer registered in other Canadian provinces who is eligible for the OIQ will be considered);
• Actual work experience or a solid understanding of various welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, and PAW;
• Possess technical knowledge of welding, metallurgy, heat treatment, and material specifications to support manufacturing operations; Knowledge of welding and material codes such as ASME Sections III, VIII, and IX, ASME B31.1, B31.3, and B16.34, military, ASTM, and European welding standards;
• Bilingualism (French and English), both written and oral.
