Director of Accounting


We are currently seeking a Director of Accounting for a well-established organization that is optimizing and transforming its financial processes.

The successful candidate will work closely with the finance department and internal teams to lead accounting activities, strengthen controls, improve operational efficiency, and optimize the use of financial systems.

Main Responsibilities

Accounting Management and Leadership

  • Provide leadership for the accounting functions, ensuring compliance with accounting, tax, contractual, and regulatory standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and review:
    • monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
    • audited financial statements, in collaboration with external auditors;
    • annual tax returns and other government obligations (GST/QST, as applicable).
  • Monitor team performance indicators and the progress of processes under their responsibility, including financial closing and transactional processes.
  • Maintain close collaboration with operational teams and support internal managers.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop the 10-person accounting team to ensure skills development and sustained performance.

Special Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Develop a deep understanding of business needs and existing financial processes.
  • Standardize, document, and optimize end-to-end financial processes while maintaining rigorous controls and data integrity.
  • Lead the implementation of new processes, tools, and controls, including documentation, training, and workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deploy solutions tailored to the organization’s specific needs and size, with a strong focus on internal client satisfaction.
  • Participate in various projects as business needs evolve.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Operational and project accounting
  • Treasury and internal controls
  • Monthly and quarterly financial reporting within optimized timeframes
  • Improved financial analysis and reporting
  • Optimization and automation of certain transactional processes
  • Modernization of payment methods and financial tools

Desired Profile

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in a structured, multi-activity environment.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills – experience managing a team of 10 people.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing financial systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, document, and implement financial processes and controls.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with integrated financial systems (an asset).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation required.
